A pilot project for a corpus dedicated to the rigorous study of narrative phenomena in Slovak literature, inspired by modern trends in digital literary studies.

The Literary Author Corpus (LAC) is a specialized research tool in the field of digital literary studies that integrates the methods of corpus linguistics with the theoretical frameworks of structuralist narratology. The pilot version (lak-1.0) provides access to texts by Pavol Vilikovský, with the primary goal of enabling the precise identification and analysis of narrative phenomena that, in the Slovak context, have thus far been studied primarily through qualitative methods. The corpus design is based on a methodology that integrates narrator typology and narrative semantics, inspired by digital research projects on prose.

From a technical standpoint, the corpus features two-level annotation: an automatic morphological layer (implemented using the MorphoDiTa tool) and a unique layer of manual literary annotation. The specialized tagset uses eight tags across three key categories: narrator (e.g., omniscient, first-person), direct speech, and embedded structures. The data are fully indexed and searchable via the CQL query language, which enables a comprehensive quantification of narrative strategies and their correlation with linguistic phenomena.
