Collection Toolbox
“Collection Toolbox” is an open-source digital tool for managing and presenting visual and textual collections online in academic and cultural institutions, co-developed within the DARIAH-SK consortium and the broader European infrastructure for the digital humanities.
Collection Toolbox is a digital platform designed for galleries, museums, archives, research institutions, and other cultural content curators. It enables the import of data from existing systems, the use of rich metadata structures, and the visually appealing presentation of objects, including deep-zoom viewing of images. It is designed to meet the needs of both professional users (curators, researchers, catalogers) and the general public.
The public interface offers full-text search and advanced filtering by author, genre, technique, geographic data, or time period, as well as multiple ways to discover content, ranging from curated collections to visual discovery based on color or motif. The object detail page integrates high-quality images, metadata, related works, and multimedia content (audio, video, PDF).
The Collection Toolbox architecture is designed with an emphasis on modularity and interoperability: the public interface, administrative interface, backend, and API form a scalable ecosystem that can be adapted to various types of collections and integrated with existing systems or repositories.
